After you reported
If they punished you for speaking up
A demotion, a sudden bad review, a transfer, a firing. If it followed a report of fraud, the law may give you a claim of your own, separate from the fraud case.
The clock
Deadlines for retaliation claims are short and strict, and they differ by law and by state. Some are counted in months. Write to us as soon as it happens, and write down your dates now.
What to write down today
- The date of your report and who received it
- The date of each change after it: review, schedule, duties, pay
- Who said what, in your own words
- Anything you were told about why
Fired or still working
They are different problems. If you are still there, we talk first about what to do and say at work, and what to leave alone.
Forms retaliation takes
Fired or laid off
Often with a reason that appeared after the report.
Moved or demoted
Same pay on paper, but off the accounts or projects you ran.
Less pay, fewer hours
A smaller bonus, fewer shifts, a quota nobody else has.
Shut out
Left off meetings, systems and email you need for your job.
Put the date in your note.
The day you reported and the day things changed. Keturah or another lawyer calls back with the deadline.
Contingency fees come from any recovery. Costs such as filing and expert fees may be separate; we explain them in writing before you sign.
